way out west oktober fest, tempe arizona.

friday october 1, 2010.
heading to tempe town lake via THE LIGHT RAIL. you know the boys were excited!
our getting to the event didn't go as planned...and almost didn't go at all. joshua and i were intending on taking the light rail from central and camelback to meet up with g'pa block by the venue and pick up the boys. we were running late, of course, and for some reason joshua didn't want to take the double stroller on the train. so, we decided to drive. we tried to find parking, but it was too expensive and too far to walk with tired boys, as we knew ours would be when the night was over. we were so frustrated and late that i called jen and told her we just weren't gonna make it. i felt horrible because we had planned this a while ago. we were on our way to pick up the boys from the blocks when we decided we could have g'pa meet us at the price/apache station. that way we could still ride the light rail in and avoid all the parking issues. both our round trip tickets cost us less than the parking fees and the boys got to ride the train twice instead of just on the way home. plus it dropped us off right across the street from the entrance. joshua ended up letting me take the double stroller on board and it all ended up working out really well. yay!
the boys with the old mill in the background.
first ride.
so wish i had a close up of abraham's face when the ride started. it was like a "whoa, this is really fast" kind of face.
ms. ella kate in front.
as a paying parent i'm not sure it was worth $6.50, but the boys really enjoyed it.
i was so paranoid about losing one of them that i wrote my phone number on both their arms. i'm thinking i should look into id bracelets. i still have mine from when i was a kid.
levi drawing on his leg.
this is his "trademark" head with legs.
then he did one on my arm, then abraham's leg.
i love these little characters.
the gang. the deckwa's and the socha's.
levi giving denver a tattoo on the bottom of his foot.
jen's and my attempt to get all five kiddos together for a group pic didn't go so well. hahaha.
denver, carter, levi and abey running.
hugs for ella from levi the lovebug.
three of the five. lol.
watchig "the parade of flags" go by.
sharing a snow cone because we're cheap. we learned our lesson. it was not a good idea. we'll either have to fork out the extra four dollars next time to keep them from fighting over it or save four bucks and not buy any at all.
the boys and the mill avenue bridge.
me and jen.
four of the five. there would really be six kiddos, if you count mav, but of the kids that can sit up on there own there are five. levi is being pouty on purpose.
abraham wanted to go on the dinosaur spinners.
lity getting ready to spin.
in full swing. about half way through abraham wanted to get off. weak stomach like his papa perhaps?
levi's been sticking his tongue out for photos lately.
mr. mavrick sleeping. he's a long lean bean...reminds me of levi as a babe.
the group as we moseyed around.
levi and ella. so sweet!
stopping by a big ol' spider man.
abe with ella's sword.
carter dunked the cop twice!
denver's turn.
me and my man.
the girlies.
it was at last years oktober fest that i found out wendi was prego with mavrick.
got a picture of the welcome sign on the way out.
joshua's and my tats, compliments of levi. he also drew these on the bottom of wendi's and jen's feet. hilar!
after the super long evening, why isn't abraham tired???

the boys and i were excited to hang out with some of our favorite peeps today at the PHOENIX CHILDREN'S MUSEUM.
lity and denver reading books.
abraham jumping onto the "BOAT" levi made. nothing can take levi's nose out of a book;;)

the boys are in a super cute barn in the art room, and look what was inside...a chicken!!!
cutting.
abraham rocking "PUNK ROCK" PINK HAIR. compliments of the castle painting station.
this, as a mommy watching her son, was one of the MOST INCREDIBLE MOMENTS of levi's life that i have ever had the PLEASURE TO WITNESS.
so this is HOW IT STARTED. i drew some chickens for abraham. levi said he was gonna make a chicken too. so, he started cutting shapes out of plain paper. the picture just above this one shows a head, body and two legs.
then he cut out a beak, and wings, and glued it all together. oh, but that's not all. he even made AN EGG and glued it to her, exactly where and egg would come out (i.e. between her legs). so KICKING MYSELF for not taking a pic of that!!! how he knew where an egg would come out is beyond me:) however, he ended up removing the egg. not sure if it was because he caught us all kind of snicking about it as he'd show us, or if it was because he wanted to make the "baby".
he made a couple extra eggs too. i love how they are both totally concentrating on their projects.
and levi's work continued until...
he had created a full on chicken and baby holding wings MASTERPIECE! i just really couldn't believe what i was seeing, that he had this ability cut these free form shape and piece them together in such a way that they made exactly what he wanted...a chicken and her baby.
miss ella.
mr. denver.
i was briefly in charge of all four kids. it was all good until abraham made a beeline for the noodles. just around the corner he is approaching in this picture. i screamed at the top of my lungs in an attempt to startle abraham into stopping, but ended up only startling everyone else in the noodle forest. abraham just looked back at me, laughed and kept running. luckily, i swooped him up when he was only about 10 noodles deep, ran him out and found the rest of the kiddos had made it to the race cars safely.
launching.
the perfect picture spot! the are so ADORABLE.
when we got home it was time to check for eggs.
two today. yay!
funny outtake.
total cuteness:))) though abe is covering up the eggs i was trying to capture as well.
dusting them off.
i wanted to get a picture with more detail of all the pieces levi cut, but the light had to be bad to do so.

then levi asked it he could draw on it. the beak of the baby came off sometime between the above pic and this one, but i love that he added eyes and a belly button. i took this one with my phone camera and it rotates in my photo viewing program, but didn't stay rotated in uploading it here. have to figure that one out when i have some time.
my first scrambled eggs. i must admit i was kinda grossed out about eating the eggs from our chickens, at first. i read it's because we are usually so detached from our food we don't think about where it comes from. it was the same when we had fish in our aquarium, r.i.p., i couldn't bare the thought of eating fish. weird, huh? the eggs ended up being delish!
