so after tons more research i'm convinced we should NOT KEEP little junior. i guess he belonged to a woman who kept him as classroom pet for 10 years in a HUGE tank. then i don't know if she was retiring or what, but she gave him and his tank to a teacher in the next classroom. this teacher didn't want the turtle, just the tank to put 3 different turtles in it. this little guy had it pretty good for ten years and apparently can live another 10 to 20. from what i read, he requires a lot of maintenance, including an hour of water play everyday!!! plus, he had stayed in the boys room last night and when i went in this morning it was PRETTY STINKY! he is totally fun to watch and extremely cute though. the boys are super into him and i'm sure they will be extremely upset if we do end up finding him a new home.
eating apples.
we grated some up for junior.
but he isn't too into eating, which happens to be a sign of stress. he's not really digging being uprooted from his previous home:(
he just walks all over anything we try to give him.
the boys watching him move about.
